Are you looking to combine a family afternoon tea experience with your love of Harry Potter? The Afternoon Tea with Wands & Wizards Exploratorium is an excellent option if you’re fans of magic, especially if you have young kids! Here is my review of this magical afternoon tea experience.
While I was working on our last-minute London trip itinerary, I knew we had to have the afternoon tea experience. I couldn’t go to London without experiencing this! My first priority was finding an experience suitable for young children, I have a three-year-old and a baby. My second was to find one with a Harry Potter theme.
After some research, I chose an afternoon tea with Wands & Wizards Exploratorium.
To be clear, the Wands and Wizards Exploratorium hosts a magical wizard experience, not specifically Harry Potter. That being said, it is the perfect occasion to add to your Harry Potter weekend!
The Wands & Wizards Experience
The experience starts off immediately in the lobby of the Exploratorium, which feels like a magical attractions shop, with the hosts in character. We are taken upstairs into a well-decorated intimate room. The tables are already prepared with the tea plate sets, a chest, and a wand.
You really do feel like you’ve stepped into a magical realm of potions. The bookcases are filled with locked chests and potion bottles. There are also beautiful tea kettles lining the shelves. It feels like such an enchanted place!
As a seasoned tea lover, I couldn’t help but notice the adorable the teacups! Each place setting had different ones.
Our host was so animated and fun; she was in character the entire time. Before starting anything, we were instructed to open the locked puzzle chest with our magic wand and spell!
Also, resting at the top of the tea shelf was a dragon egg that could change colors. My son waited anxiously for the egg to hatch, haha.
Inside the chest was a variety of tea ingredients. Here we could use a mortar and pestle and make our own tea! If your kids love “cooking, ” they will love this interactive tea experience! I had no idea we would be making our own tea bags. Anytime we wanted more hot water, our wizard host was happy to help!
The food was delicious! With a tempting selection of sweet treats, there should be something for everyone to love. The scrumptious scones and the tiny cucumber sandwiches were my favorite. I did read that the menu items may vary, especially during holidays.
There is even a segment where we are given extra potions to mix and try! We considered this our “potion experience”; it was more tea, but adding the colorful ingredients was so much fun! They gave us three small clear glasses with hot water on the bottom of the tea stand.
Each of them was directly over a light. Then, we were given three vials with colored liquid, with instructions to pour one of each in the glasses. Finally, you could add in any of the droppers (one was maple syrup). This was so unique!
They also have unique molecular cocktails that fit so well with the magical wizard theme! We couldn’t help ourselves and ordered the Bubbling Shot of Death; My taste buds loved it!
Booking Information
I would suggest booking this experience as soon as you’ve purchased your flights to London! You can easily do this through their website. We could add alcoholic drinks to our reservation upon booking at a discounted rate. For tickets, adults are £47.99, and children are £34.99.
They also have a vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options. Be sure to let them know about any additional dietary requirements when booking.
Important to note: Because our kids were under the age of 5, the potion experience, taking place in the potion room, was not available for us.
Also, there was no changing table in the bathrooms for those with babies. Another important note is that because the rooms were upstairs, they did not appear to be stroller-friendly or wheelchair accessible.
Note: They only have certain dates allotted for families with little kids.
So, is this experience worth bringing the entire family?
Yes, this world of magical adventure is absolutely worth visiting! In contrast to the Harry Potter walking tour and the Harry Potter Studios tour, this is entirely immersive and interactive and is a perfect addition to your Harry Potter-filled weekend. The pricing may seem a little steep, but I would do it again in a heartbeat!
We visited in July. They didn’t have air conditioning, so the room wasn’t hot, but it was stuffy. However, they did have fans set up.

This experience is so unique, fun and perfect for families with young kids! The staff at the Wands & Wizards Exploratorium stay in character the entire time. You don’t even have to be a Potterhead to appreciate this tea-brewing experience- just a curious muggle!
The food was delicious, the tea was an experience, and the drinks were fun! It’s the perfect place for a magical experience with something interactive and fun for the whole family! If you’re traveling to London with kids, and want to have a magical interactive experience, then the Wands & Wizards Exploratorium should be at the top of your list!
