Are you planning a family vacation to Mykonos with kids? Here are some great ideas on how to enjoy Mykonos with little kids
The Greek Island of Mykonos is part of the Cyclades in the Aegean Sea. It is well-known as a party island with an extensive nightlife. Having visited Mykonos with and without little kids, I have enjoyed the island from two different perspectives.
Is Mykonos family-friendly
Although more expensive than many of the other Greek Islands, Mykonos can be a beautiful, relaxing family trip. Fun activities to do in Mykonos with a baby and toddler are primarily going to be apart from the lively nightlife party scene of the island.
That being said, the people were so friendly to our kids. From the restaurants to storefront owners, they would go over and beyond to accommodate them. As a mom of two small children, this was such a wonderful experience.

Things to do in Mykonos with families of little kids
Enjoy the island’s beaches
There are so many beautiful sandy beaches! The lovely brown island against the crystal clear waters is an incredible sight. Many of the beaches are great for young kids, and the shallow and calm waters are perfect for snorkeling and swimming.
Mykonos has many beautiful sandy beaches, some more vibrant than others.
If you want to enjoy a more secluded and quiet beach, Kapari Beach and Fokos Beach are great options!
If you want a more lively beach lined with great restaurants, fun bars, music, private villas, and water sports, these can be great options:
Ornos Beach
Ornos Beach is located in the bay, a short bus ride from Chora, the city’s main town. Because it is in the bay, the water is often calm, with vast shallow waters. Ornos Beach also offers a taste of the party scene, with loud music and fun restaurants and bars. This may be a great option for young adults.
Kalo Livadi Beach
Kalo Livadi Beach is one of the longest beaches in Mykonos. It has stretches of soft, fine sand and shallow waters. There are many local restaurants and trendy bars.
Agios Ioannis Beach
Agios Ioannis Beach is a short walk from Ornos Beach, another great option if you want to be closer to Chora.

Restaurants
There are so many great restaurants that line the beaches! Enjoy the delicious cuisine of Mykonos while watching the sunset! Many restaurants rent out beach chairs and umbrellas.
Wind
Mykonos is also known as the island of the winds. If the daily conditions predict high wind, a local suggested Platis Gialos beach because it is a little more sheltered than other beaches.
Tip: These beaches can fill up fast. I suggest arriving first thing in the morning to find your perfect spot and ensure chair and umbrella availability.
Walk through Mykonos Old Town (Chora)
Chora depicts the quintessential Greek town, with its cobblestoned narrow streets, beautiful scenery, and whitewashed buildings. The Old Town is filled with restaurants, bars, and shops.
It’s a great place for the whole family to enjoy. The Greeks were so friendly with my two young children.
Keep in mind that Mykonos is one of the more expensive islands. Many high-end fashion stores are located in Chora.
Take some photos with the iconic Mykonos windmills
If you are visiting Mykonos with kids, then the windmills are definitely worth visiting. It is located right next to Little Venice and within walking distance from Chora. They are a pretty neat site to see. This makes for some stunning photos if you are traveling to Mykonos with a baby!
Eat some delicious food at Little Venice
Little Venice is right next to the windmills. It is a tiny stretch where the water comes up right to the buildings. The view is beautiful. There are many restaurants on this stretch.
During the low season, many restaurants and stores are not open
We really enjoyed Nice n Easy, an organic bistro restaurant. It was an excellent restaurant with outstanding food. They were exceptionally accommodating to my 3-year-old, who requested a plate of fresh fruit.
Take a boat ride
You can enjoy a leisure boat ride right off the island. A selection of companies offers guided tours and round-trip visits to other islands. Many people enjoy taking a day trip to Ancient Delos. We did not visit Delos.
How many days to spend in Mykonos with a baby?
If you are traveling to Mykonos with a baby and toddler, I suggest a trip for up to three days. The island is not very large and can be rather expensive. You could easily be happy with two days and then hop to another island.
Unlike Athens and Rhodes, Mykonos is much smaller and is more of a party destination island. Visiting Mykonos with a toddler, you can easily see what you would like in two days.
Tips if arriving by cruise ship
Mykonos is a popular cruise port destination. If you arrive by cruise, you can easily make the most of the day on the small island. Just plan ahead!

- Chora (Mykonos Old Town
- Enjoy a meal at Little Venice
- Walk to the Mykonos Windmills
- If you still have some time, visit one of the closer beaches
Is Mykonos stroller-friendly
The Mykonos town (Chora) is a beautiful white-washed city that you should absolutely visit! The stone streets can be quite narrow, with stairs. Also, strollers can be a hassle on the beaches. If you bring a stroller, be sure it’s a compact, sturdy one.
Tip: My husband and I prefer to wear our baby and toddler. We have been wearing them throughout our travels in Europe and find them far more convenient than using strollers.
How to get around Mykonos with kids
The easiest way to get around the island would be to rent a vehicle. There are car rentals all over the island.
If you are visiting from a cruise ship, take a water taxi. You can exit a short walk from the Old Town. You can also use buses.
When to visit Mykonos
I suggest avoiding visiting during the peak season. June- September in Mykonos can be quite hot and extremely crowded.
However, the island predominately relies on tourism. That being said, if you plan a family trip to Mykonos during the winter, many restaurants and stores may be closed.
We have visited the beginning of April and in June. Both months were enjoyable.
How to get to Mykonos
Although Mykonos is quite a small island, it does have its own airport. Another option would be to hop on a ferry, as you are traveling to different islands.
Additional tips for traveling with young kids
My husband and I have really enjoyed traveling as a hobby, and now that we have two young kids while stationed in Germany, we find ourselves blessed to explore Europe. Although exhausting, it always makes for quite an adventure. My biggest advice would be to have patience with your spouse and little ones. Remember, they are completely taken out of their normal routine. Keep their perspective in mind.

My final thoughts on visiting Mykonos with kids
Mykonos is a beautiful island and can make for a nice family trip if you know what to expect. We were told that Mykonos is the island where wealthy Greeks like to vacation.
That being said, Mykonos is best for a relatively short trip if you are visiting with young children. I would not consider Mykonos the best island for an extended family trip. Visit the Old Town and the beaches, and island hop to your next destination!
